This paper summarizes the major steps taken to ensure successful reservoir management of the Blackjack Creek Field. Specific problems of well spacing, optimum field producing rate, additional recovery potential, and unitization were solved by a team effort between geologists and engineers. The field lies at the eastern end of the Pickens-Pollard-Foshee fault system and is on trend with other major Smackover oil producing fields. At Blackjack Creek field the Smackover is about ft ( m) thick with the pay-zone occurring at 15, ft (4, m). The Blackjack Creek field was discovered in Jan. with the drilling of Exxon's St. Regis well. Key reservoir management decisions required early in the development planning stage were concerned with well spacing, treating-plant size, additional recovery potential, and unitization strategy.

The data obtained were major factors in determining well spacing and plant size.
With million-bbl incentive for additional recovery defined by the model, unitization efforts were carried out successfully and the field was unitized before the initiation of production. Production history has matched closely production.

A total of 14 field development wells were drilled during and Eleven were completed as potential producers. Three were plugged and abandoned as dry holes. The potential producers included development wells drilled at the recently discovered McClellan and Corkscrew fields. Successful wildcat drilling in northwest Florida led to the discoveries of McClellan and Coldwater Creek fields.
With one exception, northwest Florida exploratory drilling was targeted for the Upper Jurassic Smackover Formation or Norphlet Sandstone. The exception was an Upper Cretaceous Tuscaloosa For- mation test well.
